Self-Made

“Everything is unfolding perfectly”-Susan Jeffers

Self-Made is a 2020 Netflix original (thanks for the binge-watch Netflix!). It is a mini-series about the life of Madame CJ Walker. Madame CJ (aka Sarah Breedlove) was, you guessed it, a self-made millionaire. Some say the first (or at least one of the first) female millionaires in American.

In one scene in Self-Made, CJ (aka Octavia Spencer) confronts Booker T. Washington in an attempt to promote her business. In the series he is misogynistic and tells CJ to stay in her ‘place’ as a female. Admonishing her ambition. This is, understandably, defeating for CJ.

The cool part is, in a later scene, because of this interaction, CJ gets a business card from none other than W. E. B. Du Bois. When one door closes, another opens.

The Universe, as Gabrielle Bernstein so aptly states, has your back. When we surrender to the moment and trust that everything is truly unfolding just as it should be, we often find our worst setbacks can lead to our greatest triumphs.

We spend a lot of time in our lives comparing, obsessing about the outcome, or just plain worrying about things that may never occur. This is commonly known as suffering twice for something that may not happen once.

What is going on in your life right now that you are uncertain of? Where might opportunity wiggle its pretty little head through if you could release the worry?

You have such greatness within my dear friends. The Universe is waiting to bring you to your best tomorrow yet. But if we stay married to worry, we just might miss it-our personal calling card to our own W.E.B Du Bois business card for success.

Release. Allow. And watch your dreams unfold to a place greater than your wildest imaginings. Because beyond the worry-everything truly is unfolding perfectly.
